Please read the new paragraph titled “Your Content” in section B, “Information We Collect When You Use our Services” for details.

Effective March 1, 2022

As used in this Privacy Policy, “Personal Information” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. By using our Services, you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your Personal Information as described in this Privacy Policy. Beyond this Privacy Policy, your use of our Services is also subject to our Terms of Service. If you are a California resident, our California Resident Privacy Notice provides more information about your California privacy rights and explains how you can exercise those rights.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We may collect a variety of information from or about you or your devices from various sources, as described below.

  1. Information You Provide to Us

Registration. When you register for an account to use our Services, we ask you for your Personal Information, including your name, email address, and password. If you sign up for the Premium version of our Services, we will ask you for additional Personal Information as described in the Payments section below.

When we send you emails, we may track whether you open them to learn how to deliver a better customer experience and improve our Services.

Your Use of our Services. When you use our Services, we may collect Personal Information you provide or otherwise make available to us via our Services. For example, when you use the plagiarism checker, we store a copy of your document, which includes any information contained within. When you use our Paraphraser tool, we will collect any information you paraphrase, including Personal Information you enter into Paraphraser. When you upload documents to our Services, we will store both a copy of the original document as well as the paraphrased version and any information contained within.

We will collect the Personal Information you choose to provide us as part of your job application, such as your contact information, current employment information, and other information you choose to submit with your application and on your resume. If you apply for a job with us through a third-party platform (such as Glassdoor or LinkedIn), we will collect any information you make available to us through those third-party platforms.

When you make a payment through our Services, your credit card information, billing information, and any other financial information necessary to complete your payment (“Payment Information”) is processed by one of our third-party payment processors (Stripe, PayPal, or Google Pay), and we do not collect, store, or process your Payment Information. For more information, please see the Payment Processing section below.

  2. Information We Collect When You Use our Services

Device Information. We receive information about the device and software you use to access our Services, including internet protocol (IP) address, web browser type and version, operating system version, Microsoft Word version and device identifiers.

Your Content. When you use the QuillBot for Chrome extension, the contents in the email you prepare (excluding reply or forward content), chat messages you write (excluding history or chats received), documents you create, search queries, and text you input on multiline fields on websites you visit (“Your Content”), as transmitted by you in connection with your use of our extension, will be used in real time on our machine learning algorithm, after which Your Content is deleted from our Services. We also collect URLs and usage information (in addition to the usage information described immediately above), such as the number of times you disable/enable the extension on a website, which we retain to help us understand how you use this Service and to help us improve it. We only collect Your Content when the QuillBot icon is displayed and enabled, indicating that Your Content will be grammar checked or paraphrased. You can choose to disable the QuillBot extension at any time on the top right corner of your browser. We do not access your contacts, text in single-line input fields (which are more likely to contain personal information), or content in fields marked “sensitive” such as credit card, password, email address or email subject fields.

Usage Information. To help us understand how you use our Services and to help us improve them, we automatically receive information about your interactions with our Services, such as the date and time of visits, the pages viewed, third-party websites on which you use our Services, links to/from any page, and time spent in a session.

Analytics Partners. We use analytics services such as Google Analytics and Amplitude to collect and process certain analytics data. These services may also collect information about your use of other websites, apps, and online resources. You can learn about Google’s practices by going to https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/ and opt out of them by downloading the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Cookies and Similar Technologies. We and our third-party partners may collect Personal Information using Cookies. Cookies are small files of letters and numbers that we store on your browser or the hard drive of your computer. They contain information that is transferred to your computer’s hard drive. We use cookies, beacons, invisible tags, and similar technologies (collectively “Cookies”) to collect information about your browsing activities and to distinguish you from other users of our Services. This aids your experience when you use our Services and also allows us to improve the functionality of our Services. Cookies can be used for performance management, collecting information on how our Services are being used for analytics purposes. They can also be used for functionality management, enabling us to make the User’s visit more efficient by, for example, remembering language preferences, passwords and log-in details. We may also use pixel tags and web beacons on our Services. These are tiny graphic images placed on web pages or in our emails that allow us to determine whether you have performed a specific action. Below is an overview of the types of Cookies we and third parties may use to collect Personal Information.

    • Strictly Necessary Cookies. Some Cookies are strictly necessary to make our Services available to you. We cannot provide you with our Services without this type of cookies.

We may use our own analytics Cookies or use third-party analytics providers such as Google Analytics, Amplitude, Inspectlet, and Klaviyo to collect and process certain analytics data on our behalf. These providers may also collect information about your use of other websites, apps, and online resources. You can opt out of Google Analytics, Amplitude, Inspectlet, and Klaviyo without affecting how you visit our Services by clicking here.
